In March 2020, schools across Abu Dhabi rolled out online learning programmes in the wake of the pandemic sweeping the world. But this is all set to change after the Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) announced that students from KG1 to Grade 5/Year 6 will physically return to school from the first day of the autumn term.

The education department also revealed that all other grades and years will pysically return to school four weeks into the new term, in order to allow schools to monitor and evaluate safety procedures.
There will be an option for remote learning but students and parents will need to co-ordinate with schools in order to arrange this aspect before the start of term.
Five different reopening models are available for schools that will enable them to adhere to strict safety guidelines.
The reopening models include:
- Full face-to-face learning
- Half-day face-to-face leaning
- Alternating days
- Alternating weeks
- Hybrid model
COVID-19 tests are mandatory for all schools staff and students over the age of 12, and
ADEK will be visiting all private schools to check that sanitisation and safety procedures are being followed.
