Abu Dhabi has a fantastic arts scene with spoken-word enthusiasts, local comedians, singer-songwriters and all manner of other art-led communities.
One such community, Blank Canvas Community, run by founders Christina and Tanya known for their collaborative community projects that have seen people paining together have now teamed up with Art Cenral and UAE Relief.
During the pandemic, the entrepreneurial sister duo have managed to move what they do to the online space, where you can access a weekly line-up of global events that are free.
The week kick starts with Sunday discussions on a range of topics on what inspires you, to how you can collectively or individually adjust to the changes around you. The sisters ponder these topics and many others with End Small Talk, an Abu Dhabi based group that uses simple conversations to explore mental well-being.
If its inner peace and stretches you’re looking for, to channel your chi, you can join their online Zoom meditation and yoga sessions.
The week culminates every Wednesday with their ‘Art & Chill’ sessions on Instagram. The sessions feature a new artist every week who serenades everyone who tunes in to draw, paint or create what they interpret to be their antidote.
All these sessions are free but offer the option to pay what little you can to help support the community.
The latest venture that gives back to the community
In their latest venture – ‘collAboRaTe,’ the sisters have partnered with Art Central. They have put together art supplies for 2-3 people along with a step-by-step guide and a choice between a blank or printed canvas, to create a collaborative painting.
The beauty of this project is that it allows you to enjoy it with your loved ones and also lets you buy a box for a family that has been affected by the pandemic.
UAE Relief Initiative, a volunteer organisation that delivers food and supplies to families around the emirate, are also in on the project.
The boxes can be purchased online at Art Central and 10% of each purchase goes towards helping local artists.
To attend the session of your choice, engage with more young artists and organisations or purchase your own collAboRaTe box, follow the Blank Canvas Community on Instagram and Facebook.
