15 Things to Do While Social Distancing in D.C. This Summer
Due to COVID, summer in Washington, D.C. may look a bit different this year. But all is not lost. There are still plenty of ways to have safe, family fun in our nation's capital. Just keep in mind that many spots are requiring advance, online ticket purchases to keep numbers down and allow for plenty of social distance, so plan ahead. And don't forget your masks!
1. Hang out with lions, tigers and elephants at the National Zoo. All visitors must reserve passes online and face coverings are required for guests ages six and older. Note: the Giant Panda House, Reptile Discovery Center, carousel and playgrounds are closed. There will also be no daily animal demos.
2. If you've eaten (and cleaned up!) way too many meals at home, try an outdoor dining option at The Wharf. Click here for a list of restaurants.
3. Want to get out of town for a bit? We suggest one of these beach day trips near D.C. (Check online before heading out for any closures or new rules due to COVID).
4. The National Gallery of Art has reopened! (Free, timed passes are required and released every Monday at 10am for the following week; masks are required for all visitors except those under age two.) Make sure to stop by the outdoor sculpture garden while you're there.
5. Embrace the great outdoors and take the kids on a family-friendly hike. Here are our favorites in the D.C. area.
