Holidays are a no go that’s for sure but you can still visit far away destinations… welcome to Malta.

Are you missing travelling and exploring new places? Even with us being confined to our homes, you can still keep discovering new places through virtual tours arranged by digital platform Google Arts and Culture.

So now you can head over to Malta, where the country’s national agency for museums, conservation practice and cultural heritage, has recently collaborated with Google to allow users from all around the world to virtually discover the island’s heritage sites.

Heritage Malta currently has 25 virtual tours, which include museums, temples, forts, archaeological sites as well as three UNESCO heritage sites which are the city of Valletta, the Hal Saflieni Hypogeum and the Megalithic Temples.

 

VISIT VALLETTA

In Valletta’s virtual tour, you’ll get to discover several historical attractions in the city such as the Grandmaster’s Palace, which is now the seat of Malta’s President. The tour also includes a fascinating trip to Fort St. Elmo National War Museum. Here visitors can discover Malta’s history from the bronze age around 4,500 years ago, up to the time of the first and second world wars.

DISCOVER HAL SAFLIENI HYPOGEUM

Virtual visitors can also enjoy unravelling the secrets of Hal Saflieni Hypogeum, which was used as sanctuary and burial place by temple builders. Some of the structure’s elements trace back to before 4,400 and 5,600 years ago, which were discovered during construction in 1902.

Due to the spread of coronavirus COVID-19, travellers are not able to visit the islands and enjoy their offerings. However, Malta is always on the lookout for new and innovative ways to share its magic with people across the world. So, go on, take a much needed trip today!
