Rooftop Rhythms streams open mic night
The capital’s most popular open mic and poetry night is still on and streaming live on Facebook so login and get in the groove.
Get social – even at a distance – and join local performers online for the 8th anniversary celebration of Rooftop Rhythms. See poets, spoken word and Hip-Hop artists do their thing in a live stream from the Rooftop Rhythms Facebook page. Plus, the show kicks off with the smooth sounds of DJ A.L.L.A.D at 7.45pm so make sure you’re logged in to hear his set.
Launched in 2012 by Dorian Paul Rogers, Rooftop Rhythms is co-presented with NYU Abu Dhabi with official support of US Embassy Abu Dhabi.
Speaking on the 8th anniversary, Dorian said: “Going live for our first ever virtual show is a big step for us. While we are doing this particular show out of necessity for the purpose of social distancing, this platform of performing could be used in the future to welcome international performers who may not be able to physically attend our events and expose our locally based artists to the rest of the world.
“We are excited for what the future has in store for the UAE performance arts scene as the talent is abundant here”, he continued.
Rooftop Rhythms and The Arts Center at NYU Abu Dhabi are committed to providing a platform for locally based artists to share their original creative work in front of a supportive community. In an effort to foster local talent, all poets and musicians are asked to perform original material.
The show is free and performances start at 8pm.
