Despite being a major international travel hub and tourist spot, the UAE has recorded a relatively small number of covid-19 cases and deaths. Here’s how the government is staying on top of the pandemic.
Hend Al Otaiba, director of strategic communications for the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs took to her personal Twitter account to share how the government is fighting covid-19. Here’s the awesome thread…
1. The UAE has conducted the highest level of testing per million in the world, an effort which began very early on in the crisis according to a pre-existing national strategy.
2. The UAE has among the highest levels of hospital capacity globally, so much so that it has been able to offer its beds for humanitarian purposes, and has donated equipment and aid to over 50 countries in need.
3. The UAE moved quickly at the beginning of the month to move schools to remote learning and has since managed an orderly transition to social distancing, including full closure of borders.
4. The UAE is investing a significant amount of resources and effort into research and development, to help improve the speed and accuracy of testing and to try to find a cure for the virus.
5. As a world leader in transport and logistics, the UAE has placed a heavy focus on preparing to facilitate the restoration of international connectivity and hopes to provide a model for recovery in the coming period.
