Yas pet Fest: Just fur the fun of it

We got in touch with Yas Pet Festival organiser Dr Shree Nair to find out how you can show your furbaby all the love this Valentine’s Day and have some family fun into the bargain. Oh, and Abu Dhabi World is a media partner!

 

What makes the Yas Pet Festival a standout event?
We are consistently introducing innovative pet-related activities for pet owners and lovers in the UAE. The International All Breeds Dog Show Competitions, The Pet Fashion Show, the Specialty Breed Shows, K9 Dog Demonstrations and Pet & Owner Fancy Dress are examples of activities introduced in the past shows.

 

Who should attend the event?
It is an entertaining and informative family event; therefore, there’s something for everyone to enjoy whether you’re a pet owner, breeder, trainers or just love pets.

 

Out of all of the competitions, which is a must-see?
All of our competitions are a must-see, as they are all unique. It depends on which type of pet you like. Dog lovers can watch The International Dog Show Championship, Mono Breed Dog Show and Demonstrations. Cat lovers can watch the Cat Show – Feline Beauty Competitions in the designated Cat Tent. General visitors are always thrilled to watch the Police Dogs demonstrations.

 

What’s the key message regarding pets in Abu Dhabi that you wish to share with people?
In recent years there has been great development with regards to animal welfare in the region. We are guiding pet owners and the pet industry to surpass international standards with regards to quality, welfare and understanding.

 

In what way does Yas Pet Festival help animal charities?
Yas Pet Festival always associates with reputed animal welfare organisations and governmental animal welfare departments. We are currently associated with the Emirates Animal Welfare Society, Emirates Dog Owners Society and Ras Al Khaimah Animal Welfare Center, and there is always room for other reputed organisations to partner with us.

 

Other than pets, what else is happening at the Yas Pet Festival?
The event is a family day out, so adults and kids have lots of fun-filled activities to enjoy. There’s an excellent variety of food and beverage, wellness experts and products. The Pet Fashion Show features specially designed outfits for pets, presenting a show that you cannot find anywhere else. The Petting Farm will allow children to learn and interact with farm animals, birds, turtles and more. A new and improved kids zone will feature trampolines, giant inflatable slide, face painting, a basketball slam-dunk, arts & crafts and more. Groomers, pet experts and vets will all be on-site to facilitate and help with any questions for current owners, prospective owners and curious kiddies.

 

 

Watch out for!

Agility race – Pets and owners get to display their obstacle course prowess and for pets who may experiencing behavioural problems with their owners there’s workshops aplenty giving tips and training techniques on how to bring your human into line.

UAE World Kennel Union Dog Competition – All breeds are welcome this spotlight event that sends the puparazzi wild.

Abu Dhabi Police K9 Unit Demonstration – This crowd-pleaser showcases the incredible bond between dogs and handlers as audiences witness first-hand the intelligence and training that helps sniff out danger and deal with serious criminals.

Vendor stalls ­– Shop at an array of pet products and services, food and drink pop ups, food trucks and explore stalls displaying animal welfare programmes.

Note for owners bringing pets: All pets that arrive must be fully vaccinated and present their pet passport. Dogs will all be checked for aggressiveness prior to entry. Full details can be found at petfestival.ae.
